BayBG SME event: insights into darknet, ransomware and AI-based cyber threats

Cybercrime is no longer a marginal phenomenon – it is widespread, highly organized and extremely profitable. At the BayBG SME events in Nuremberg and Munich, IT security expert Tobias Schrödel demonstrated how structured cybercriminal activities have become and why companies are increasingly targeted.

A look into the darknet revealed the scale of the issue: companies are listed as targets of extortion attempts, including rankings of the most active ransomware groups. Illegal marketplaces resemble well-known online shops, with clear structures, user ratings and offerings ranging from stolen identities to counterfeit money.

Particularly alarming is the use of artificial intelligence. A deepfake example illustrated how quickly realistic videos can be generated from minimal source material – posing significant risks for companies.

In addition to these insights, Tobias Schrödel outlined how companies can strengthen their defenses. One key takeaway: underestimating risks or reacting too late can have serious consequences.

Following the presentation, many guests took the opportunity to engage directly with Tobias Schrödel during the networking session. His expertise in IT security was in high demand.
