At the pulse

of medicine

close to the customer. Medika Medizintechnik GmbH once again impressively lived up to this motto in 2020. When hospitals, medical practices and facilities experienced shortages of face masks, gowns and FFP2 masks in the summer, the company quickly chartered a cargo plane, among other measures, which flew over 90 tons of the urgently needed materials from China to Germany.

Protective products – Made in Germany

This example demonstrates the flexible and rapid adaptability of the retailer and service provider for the medical sector, which also offers care products under its own brand, homedcare. It also highlights the dependence on Asian imports for essential medical protective equipment. Thus, medika's commitment extends far beyond trading. Together with TEG-Textile Experts Germany, based in Saxony, and KL Medical, located in North Rhine-Westphalia, medika has forged a partnership with the goal of manufacturing FFP2 masks and gowns in Germany. This was established in early summer 2020, and production and sales have since been successfully launched. medika Managing Director Stefan Weiß explains: "As a trading company specializing in personal protective equipment and Class 1 medical devices, among other things, we wanted to ensure that more and more products are manufactured 'at home' in the future to guarantee a secure supply and high quality for our hospitals, doctors, and businesses."

Continuing on a growth path: Sixth location in Oberhausen

Continuing on its growth trajectory: Sixth location in Oberhausen – Being close to the customer means not only constantly adapting to changing customer needs for medika, but also regional proximity. This is illustrated by another highlight of 2020: At the beginning of October, medika opened a new branch in Oberhausen, North Rhine-Westphalia.

The continuous regional expansion of its market area through acquisitions and branch offices has characterized the growth of the company, founded in 1967, which has been supported for years by mezzanine financing from BayBG. Following its headquarters in Hof, the company has made acquisitions and established branches over time. Medika now has four branches in Germany and a subsidiary in Austria, and has also operated an online shop for several years. Today, medika is one of the largest family-owned trading and service companies in the German healthcare market.
