FENECON: Electricity storage

and the energy transition

FENECON GmbH sells its electricity storage systems internationally and is considered an innovation leader in the industry. BayBG supports this multi-award-winning company, which is successfully driving forward the energy transition.

Energy storage from FENECON –

with innovative spirit for the energy transition

In recent years, Fenecon has successfully established itself as an expert in energy management and electricity storage solutions and is one of the market and innovation leaders with particularly forward-looking system and energy management functions. In 2023, the state-of-the-art production plant in Iggensbach was built, which serves as an industrial storage location. The additional equity capital of five million euros will be used to set up further production facilities in Germany and the USA.

Setting the course for further growth

The company's history began in 2011 with its first project: a grid-connected PV system for personal consumption without surplus feed-in for the parents of founder Franz-Josef Feilmeier. Initially, work on this project was carried out in the family garage.

From the very beginning, FENECON has focused on continuous research and development in order to identify customer needs and make its products even more efficient and powerful. In 2013, the company launched FEMS – an innovative monitoring and energy management system for storage and PV systems. FENECON made this freely accessible via the OpenEMS platform in 2016 and received the prestigious Energy Award from Handelsblatt for its efforts. Over the years, more and more storage models and FEMS applications have been added to the hardware and software portfolio. FENECON is one of the few companies in the industry to offer electricity storage systems across all size classes: from home and commercial storage systems to industrial and large-scale storage systems.

In 2025, FENECON set the course for further growth and divided the company into three business units: ‘Home & Commercial’, “Industrial” and ‘Internal Services’. In line with this, the headquarters were relocated to nearby Iggensbach. Industrial power storage systems have been manufactured there since the beginning of 2024. The warehouse and production site in Albersdorf near Vilshofen an der Donau, acquired in mid-2024, offers more than 20,000 square metres of space for the Home & Commercial business unit. In addition, the previous CIO, Stefan Feilmeier, was appointed deputy managing director. The FENECON management board also consists of Alexandra Feilmeier, Christoph Rieger, Daniel Birkeneder, Ferdinand Urlbauer, Jona Hallitzky, Leonhard Kriegl, Ludwig Asen, Michael Miedl, Rochus Gold and Thomas Gößwein.

Strong innovator

FENECON's electricity storage systems are in use worldwide – more than 30,000 of them are helping to reduce CO2 emissions and drive forward the energy transition. Managing Director Feilmeier and his team still have big plans: according to the Technology Fast 50 Award 2023, FENECON is one of the 50 fastest-growing technology companies in Germany.

FENECON's performance, flexibility and innovative strength are also reflected in a number of prestigious awards. In 2023, 2024 and 2025, the company was named as ‘Innovator of the Year’ in the TOP 100 competition for German medium-sized companies.

The company's proprietary energy management system, FEMS, also impressed: in 2025, it won The smarter E Award in the ‘Smart Integrated Energy’ category. Further accolades followed, including the Top Innovation Award and the SolarProsumerAward from EUPD Research, the latter in the HEMS and storage categories. In 2024, FENECON received the Bavarian SME Award and was honoured as one of BAYERN'S BEST 50 companies. The year before, it had already received the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Award, the ees Award for the Industrial L storage model and the EM-Power Award for the rental storage offering of its subsidiary FERESTO, among others.
