The smart and sustainablbe oral care brand
The young company happybrush has been able to boast the smart and sustainable oral care brand "Product of the Year" since January 2020, an award it received in France for its VIBE 3 toothbrush. Happybrush stands for oral care the way you want it: simple, effective, and honest. The Munich-based start-up is bringing a breath of fresh air to the industry, offering professional oral care at fair prices with a modern design.
The idea came to the two founders, Stefan Walter and Florian Kiener, at a house party where they noticed that many of their friends used manual toothbrushes. "For most, electric toothbrushes were too cumbersome, too expensive, or simply too unattractive," says Walter. The two friends had already gained knowledge about the effectiveness of electric toothbrushes while working at Procter & Gamble, where they were involved in marketing and sales for brands such as Oral-B and blend-a-med. The business graduates quit their jobs and founded happybrush GmbH in 2016.
The company offers two main models of electric toothbrushes – one with a rotating brush and one with sonic technology. Both brushes are equipped with smart features such as a 2-minute timer, a USB charging port, and a travel lock. The toothbrushes also boast a stylish design, excellent value for money, and a battery life of up to 6 weeks. The product range has been expanded to include a mouthwash and toothpaste that are 100% vegan. The materials used are recyclable and made in Germany. Social responsibility is also important to the startup. Following the motto "Brushing your teeth and doing good," they launched the #BrushforWater project in partnership with Welthungerhilfe (World Hunger Aid), which aims to provide as many people as possible with access to clean drinking water. By last year, over 63 million liters of water had been donated through this initiative.
Three years have passed since its launch, and by the end of 2019, happybrush had sold a total of 3 million products. A key factor in this success was their appearance two years prior on the VOX startup show "Die Höhle der Löwen" (The Lion's Den). The broadcast alone, and the subsequent listing of their products at dm (a German drugstore chain), instantly brought the company significant attention and elevated the startup to a higher level. The team has now grown to 15 people. In the coming years, the company and its product range are set to continue growing and undergo international expansion. This will be supported not only by the award won in France, but also by other accolades such as the "German Design Award Winner 2019" and the "very good" rating from testsieger.de.
